Pursuing (im)Perfection: How Cutting-Edge Tech is Helping Cherry Create the Happiest Humans

At Cherry Optical Lab, we’re in constant Pursuit of (im)Perfection.

Now we know that perfection doesn’t exist, but that doesn’t stop us from pursuing it with everything we’ve got. And that’s the kind of fuel that drives our commitment to innovate, improve, and invest in the best technology.

We make the world’s best lenses, and we want to keep making the world’s best lenses. So, that’s why we’ve added the VXH-X1 Digital Microscope from Keyence to our tech lineup.

Wait, Why a Microscope?

This isn’t some old-school Lab microscope. This thing has:

  • 2,500x magnification
  • 3D imaging
  • Digital reporting
  • (And much more)

It's a tool that lets us see what we couldn’t see before. We’re talking about spotting a pit the size of a pinprick, figuring out if it came from surfacing, a machine hiccup, or a rogue suction cup, and then using that information to tweak our processes and keep it from happening next time.

“Sometimes we’ll get these weird little defects, and we have no idea where they came from,” said Ryan, Senior Department Manager of Anti-Reflective Coating Operations. “Now, we can zoom in and actually tell - was it a coating issue? Did something press into the lens? It helps us understand what's happening and get ahead of it.”

We’re solving problems before they begin. As Ryan says, “It’s a proactive solution, not a reactive one.”

Innovation Isn’t an Option—It’s a Passion.

This new tech allows us to re-imagine what’s possible in optical manufacturing. The VXH-X1 is just the latest example of this, because we’re always asking, ‘what’s the next best way to do this? How can we make it even better?,’ whether it’s upgrading equipment, streamlining our processes, or training our team to be the best they can be.

As Process Pioneers, innovation isn’t something we do if we have time. It’s something we make time for.

And here’s why that matters:

  • Better processes = fewer remakes.
  • And fewer remakes = Happier Humans.*
  • *our team members, our customers, and their customers

Happier Team Members. Happier Customers.

Smoother, slicker processes make everyone happy, from our team members to our customers, and to their customers.

For Our Team Members:

  • It empowers more team members to confidently identify and solve issues. “I also see the potential to get more team members comfortable with what they’re looking at, quicker,” said Adam Cherry, President of Cherry Optical Lab. “Instead of saying, ‘Let’s save that for another team member,’ we’ll have people saying, ‘Hey, something’s off—I want to figure this out now.’ And that’s huge.”
  • Plus, there’s no guesswork; team members can see the issue for themselves and then work to fix it.

For Our Customers:

  • Crystal-clear, visual answers when they ask, “What happened to this lens?,” which means we can be transparent with them.

And For Their Customers:

  • Faster delivery.
  • Better lens performance.
  • And, a smoother, more reliable eyewear experience.

Bottom Line?

This is what happens when cutting-edge technology meets expert craftsmanship. The VXH-H1 microscope isn’t just a new tool, but a commitment to always improving our innovation, and, most importantly, our lenses.

We believe that Pursuing (im)Perfection means never settling. It means asking better questions, testing bold ideas, and constantly leveling up our tools, our people, and our processes.

With every new idea, we move one step closer to perfection (even if perfection itself is out of reach).

We are in Pursuit of (im)Perfection. And we’re just getting started.
